So, a lot of times when I see a movie with a bad guy, he has a lot of his bad guy friends with him. And like, I guess they aren’t his friends exactly. They never really talk to the bad guy, but they are part of his extensive bad guy army. You know who they are, they are the guys the good guy has to take down before the final big fight with the bad guy. But like, where does the bad guy find these people? Cause usually the bad guy isn’t very personable and I don’t know where he gets all his friends from….and these people must like the bad guy enough to fucking DIE for him. They all put themselves in harm’s way to defend the bad guy. Is there like, a bad guy Craigslist where he finds these people? Like ****LOOKING FOR TEAM OF PEOPLE TO POSSIBLY DIE IN THE NAME OF EVIL****?? It just doesn’t add up in my mind.

a strange breed

I consider myself a strange breed. I don’t like alcohol…and I never felt the need to get drunk. I don’t really like partying. I don’t do drugs. Sometimes I think I am somehow broken or messed up. Society has weirdly tricked us into thinking that between the ages of 15-25, we should be getting drunk. Doing drugs. Hooking up, having sex with different people. In college, we are supposed to get wasted and do silly things. We are supposed to have sex with multiple people. We are supposed to stay out all night! We are supposed to do “questionable” or “stupid” things, because we are young! You only live once! These are your years to experiment! For whatever reason, I never felt comfortable living like this or participating in these things. And for that reason, I felt stupid. I felt lame and boring; an inadequate person. And then I started to wonder…why the hell do I feel this way? Why am I, at age 21, still feeling pressured into doing things? This is not me, and it took me a bit..but I came to terms that I absolutely do not need to do these things to be interesting or fun. I don’t think there is ANYTHING wrong with wanting to do these things, or liking this lifestyle. Not at all. It just wasn’t for me, and it took me a while to come to terms with that. I don’t need to do those things. I guess I am just a strange breed, but I get more excitement from other things. And that’s okay.

I want to write about these girls.

When I was a teenager my mother found my grandmother’s (her mother) school scrapbook. It included things like photos, notes, and a two page spread of every demerit she ever received over the course of her formal education. Each of them set aside with little tags like she was so fucking proud of them. They were all for things like, “Unladylike behavior” or, “Skirt too short” or, “refuses to listen to authority”. I loved that spread so much.

I always have to reblog this.

Being Home

The older I get, the more I can appreciate being home….but at the same time, the less it feels like home. It is a slow and strange transition from this house being “my home”, to being my “childhood home”. I feel it happening. When I was a freshman in college, I retreated to my home multiple times a month. As a senior in college, I go months without going home.

There are some really love things about being here. Dim lighting in my grey room. Being surrounded by ancient artifacts from my former self. My books neatly lining the shelves. A comfortable bed, broken in on the right side (the side where I sleep). Home smell. A fridge filled with food made with the hands of people I love. Hands of people I at least know. Extreme quietness at night. I forgot how quiet could sound. It is not a familiar sound when you live in a dorm building. It makes my ears ring at night it is so quiet here. The sky has so many stars in it. I can look out my bedroom window and see the street, the yard, trees that grew there unintentionally.

This place is broken in. Familiar. I can walk around my house with my eyes closed. The light switches, the door knobs, the couch…they all feel familiar. At night I turn off my tv and listen to music. It is nice to be home.
